The Pani Gold Mine is now officially supported by a 30-million volt-ampere (VA) electricity supply from State-Owned Electricity Firm (PLN). This power capacity covers the entire operational needs of the mine, from employee camp facilities to ore processing plants. The supply is almost twice the total electricity capacity currently available to the entire Pohuwato Regency, underscoring the scale and importance of the project for both industry and the surrounding region.

This cooperation follows a power purchase agreement signed in 2023, under which PLN committed to provide a dedicated supply for the Pani Gold Mine, ensuring stable and reliable electricity for its large-scale operations.

The inauguration of the power supply and substation maintenance was held on 1 October 2025 at the Marisa Substation in Paguat District, Pohuwato Regency. From there, electricity flows to the substation of PT Gorontalo Sejahtera Mining (GSM)—one of the mine operators under PT Merdeka Gold Resources Tbk (MGR), which recently listed its shares on the Indonesia Stock Exchange under the ticker EMAS. From GSM’s substation, electricity is distributed across operational sites, from the Pioneer Camp to ore processing facilities such as the Ore Preparation Plant (OPP) and the Adsorption–Desorption–Recovery (ADR) plant. As each facility is completed, electricity connections are immediately commissioned.

In the next phase, the Pani Gold Mine will also utilize renewable electricity through a renewable energy certificate (REC) scheme. This initiative is aligned with the sustainability values of its parent company, PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk. To support this, at the same event, PT GSM, together with PT Pani Bersama Tambang (PBT) and PT Pani Industri Nusantara (PIN), signed an agreement with PT Energy Management Indonesia (EMI), a subsidiary of PLN. The green supply will be sourced from the Bakaru Hydroelectric Plant (PLTA) in Pinrang, South Sulawesi.

The inauguration event was attended by PLN’s Director of Retail and Commerce Adi Priyanto and his team, Pohuwato Regent Saipul A. Mbuinga, Pohuwato Deputy Regent Iwan S. Adam, Speaker of Pohuwato Regional Parliament Beni Nento, as well as representatives of Merdeka and Pani management, including President Director of PT MGR and PT GSM Boyke Poerbaya Abidin, and Director of PT PBT Cahyono Seto.

The power inauguration took place just six hours after the first mining at the Pani Gold Mine. On that occasion, MGR announced the commencement of mining activities after years of preparation, starting with overburden stripping and initial material extraction.

“This will greatly benefit the community,” said Pohuwato Regent Saipul A. Mbuinga. “Electricity operations will increase regional revenue.”

Boyke Poerbaya Abidin, MGR President Director, expressed his appreciation to all employees, their families, and stakeholders. “With the hard work of everyone, we will move on to the next stages,” he said. “This power operation is the gateway to the future phases.”

“The presence of PT GSM in Gorontalo not only makes a strong contribution to the industrial sector, but also brings tangible benefits to local communities,” said PLN Director of Retail and Commerce Adi Priyanto. “When new businesses emerge and grow, it will encourage other enterprises—from shops and laundries to boarding houses.”

With PLN’s total electricity supply of 30 million VA now in operation, the Pani Gold Mine has secured a solid energy foundation to move forward. The availability of this power not only supports mining operations but also plays an important role in strengthening infrastructure development in Pohuwato Regency and the surrounding areas.

On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, PT Merdeka Gold Resources Tbk (MGR) officially commenced its first mining activities at the Pani Gold Mine. First mining marks the initial stage of mining operations, starting with overburden stripping and the extraction of the first ore.

“First mining is an important milestone for MGR, its shareholders, and all stakeholders,” said Boyke P. Abidin, President Director of MGR. “It marks the start of mining activities, which will soon be followed by heap leach processing, gold recovery, and first production.”

The commencement of first mining took place shortly after MGR followed in the footsteps of its parent company, PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk (IDX: MDKA), by being listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange on September 23, 2025. Under the ticker symbol EMAS, MGR successfully raised IDR 4.66 trillion to support mine development.

Located in Hulawa Village, Pohuwato Regency, Gorontalo Province, the Pani Gold Mine contains over 7 million ounces of gold with a multi-decade mine life. Managed by several MGR subsidiaries overseeing mining operations, processing facilities, and supporting infrastructure, the mine is designed as an open-pit mine to be developed in stages.

In the initial stage, MGR will apply heap leach processing with a capacity of 7 million tonnes of ore per year, targeting annual production of around 140,000 ounces of gold. In the next stage, the company will build a carbon-in-leach (CIL) processing facility with an initial capacity of 7.5 million tonnes of ore per year, which will be expanded to 12 million tonnes of ore by 2030.

When both facilities are operating at full capacity, the combined heap leach and CIL throughput will reach 19 million tonnes of ore per year, with peak production potential of up to 500,000 ounces of gold annually. First gold production from heap leach is expected in the first quarter of 2026.

In the long term, the Pani Gold Mine is projected to become an economic driver in Pohuwato Regency and Gorontalo Province. Boyke emphasized that the project will deliver broad benefits, including job creation, new business opportunities, and increased regional revenue.

“We are committed to operating responsibly, adhering to Good Mining Practices and high Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, so that the benefits can be sustained over time,” Boyke said.

With first mining underway, the next steps—ore stacking and processing—will lead to first gold production next year. The journey of the Pani Gold Mine has officially begun, opening a new chapter for MGR to become one of the largest primary gold mines in Indonesia and providing positive benefits to the surrounding community.

That Sunday morning felt different for residents of nine villages surrounding the mining area in Buntulia and Marisa subdistricts. Hundreds of people made their way to the Affordable Market held on 21 September 2025 at three locations: Teratai Village Hall, the Buntulia Subdistrict Office Hall, and SDN 04 Buntulia in Butato Hamlet, Hulawa Village. Some came with neighbors, others with their children, all sharing the same purpose, to buy daily necessities at affordable prices.

The Affordable Market was organized by the Pani Gold Project in collaboration with the Gorontalo Regional Police (Polda) and the Indonesian Youth National Committee (KNPI) Gorontalo. Through this social initiative, the Pani Gold Project distributed 1,300 packages of essential goods. For only Rp50,000, residents could take home rice, sugar, tea, and canned fish—basic ingredients for daily needs.

“The company is here as part of the family,” said Mahesha Lugiana, CSR Manager of the Pani Gold Project.

The initiative was warmly welcomed by Buntulia Subdistrict Head, Saiful Hunta. “On behalf of the community of Buntulia, I would like to express our gratitude. With this program, people truly feel helped.”

“Alhamdulillah,” said Yurita, a resident of Palopo Village. “This affordable market helps provide kitchen needs at lower prices.”

Similar sentiments were expressed by Ritnawati Ponio from Teratai Village: “This market helps ease our economic burden.”

Emi, a resident of Hele Hamlet, added: “I hope programs like this can be held more often so the community continues to benefit.”

The Affordable Market has been held several times by the Pani Gold Project, especially during Ramadan. This time, the initiative expanded to three different locations. Beyond the affordable goods, the market also became a gathering place where residents greeted one another, exchanged news, and shared stories while waiting in line.

In addition, this program—carried out in collaboration with the Gorontalo Regional Police and KNPI—also supports the Indonesian National Police’s initiative to strengthen national food security as mandated by the Government of Indonesia.

Renovation of the Pohuwato Grand Mosque has entered its next phase. Following the earlier construction of the minaret, main gate, and repainting of the fence, this stage focused on upgrading supporting facilities with the support of the Pani Gold Project, a business unit of PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk. This gold mining project, under PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk, is located in Hulawa Village, Buntulia District, Pohuwato Regency, Gorontalo, and is scheduled to begin operations in early 2026.

On Saturday, August 16, 2025, the mosque’s management and congregation held a thanksgiving ceremony to mark the completion of the latest improvements, including the renovation of ablution and restroom facilities for men and women, as well as the construction of a connecting corridor leading from the purification area to the mosque’s main prayer hall. The upgraded facilities now appear cleaner and more organized.

Pohuwato Deputy Regent Iwan S. Adam, who attended the event, expressed his appreciation for the company’s support. “On behalf of the local government, we extend our sincere gratitude for this renovation,” he said. “The ablution area is now comparable to those in major city mosques.” He also encouraged the congregation to maintain the new facilities and voiced his hope that similar support would reach mosques at the subdistrict level.

Ramon Abdjul, Chairman of the mosque’s management board, noted that the Pani Gold Project has consistently supported renovations in stages. “We hope the company will continue these improvements, as they will enhance the devotion of our congregation,” he said.

The thanksgiving ceremony was also attended by Pohuwato Regional House Speaker Beni Nento, Provincial Assembly Member Muhammad Dzikyan, Assistant I for Government and Welfare Arman Mohamad, religious leader KH Fahri Djafar, and dozens of orphans from Sumayah Orphanage and Hidayatullah Islamic Boarding School. From the company, Pani Gold Project President Boyke P. Abidin and his management team were present.

“This is proof that the prayers of the Grand Mosque congregation have been answered,” Boyke said. “We ask for your prayers so that by March next year, the Pani Gold Project can begin production.” He also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the local community. “Do not regard the company as outsiders. We are part of the people of Bumi Panua,” he added, referring to the local nickname for Pohuwato Regency.

In his brief sermon, KH Fahri Djafar reminded the congregation of the importance of gratitude, quoting Surah Ibrahim, verse 7. He urged worshippers to care for the newly renovated facilities so they can continue to benefit the community.

The Pani Gold Project has once again demonstrated its commitment to developing local human resources. On August 1, 2025, a ceremony was held to welcome back Batch 1 participants of the Talent Development Program (TDP) VII: Processing Trainee, who had completed two months of training at the Tujuh Bukit Gold Mine in Banyuwangi, East Java, and to send off Batch 2 participants who will undergo the same program.

The training program is designed to prepare skilled workers who will eventually operate the Pani Gold Project, which is projected to begin production in the first quarter of 2026. Training takes place at the Tujuh Bukit Gold Mine because is applies the heap leach method, the same processing method that will be implemented at the Pani Gold Project. The Tujuh Bukit Gold Mine, managed by PT Bumi Suksesindo, is a key asset of PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk, which also oversees the Pani Gold Project.

The Pani Gold Project will be managed by applying responsible mining practices to ensure the safe and sustainable use of resources. Containing more than 7 million ounces of gold, the project is set to become one of the largest primary gold mines in the Asia-Pacific region.

Since late 2023, the TDP has run seven batches, with most focusing on enhancing the skills of heavy equipment operators, and one batch dedicated to mentoring vocational school teachers—bringing direct benefits to the local community. The program is a strategic initiative to ensure local workers are ready to compete in the modern mining industry.

Gorontalo Governor Gusnar Ismail, who attended the event, expressed his appreciation. “The Pani Gold Project has proven its commitment to improving education and human resources in Gorontalo Province through workforce training,” said Gusnar, before encouraging the trainees: “You must continue to push yourselves to grow.”

The Pani Gold Project’s contribution to education goes beyond workforce training. By mid-2025, four schools in Pohuwato Regency had been renovated—SD 02, SD 05, SMP 02 Buntulia, and SDN 09 Buntulia. These renovations, aimed at creating more comfortable learning environments, were complemented by sports equipment and other supporting facilities. The TDP event was also held at the newly renovated SDN 09 Buntulia, marking the official handover of the renovation to the school.

Pohuwato Deputy Regent Iwan S. Adam emphasized the importance of community support for investment and expressed his gratitude for the company’s contribution to school renovations.

Pani Gold Project Director Boyke P. Abidin added: “As a good neighbor, we continue to prove our commitment to developing human resources, both in Pohuwato Regency and Gorontalo Province.”

One training alumnus, Renard Andrey Van Gobel from Duhiadaa District, Pohuwato Regency, shared: “This program instills discipline and responsibility in us. Thank you for this valuable opportunity.”

Of the Batch 1 TDP VII participants who had just returned from Banyuwangi, 92 percent were from Pohuwato Regency. This reflects the company’s commitment to prioritizing local workers, preparing them for the workforce while also supporting the future operations of the mining project. By combining technical training, mental readiness, and the opportunity to learn from an internationally recognized mine, the company is building a strong foundation for the community’s long-term sustainability.

Annisa Nur Fitriani, HR Senior Supervisor at the Pani Gold Project, also reminded the departing participants: “Uphold the reputation of your hometown, maintain proper conduct and ethics during training. Learning doesn’t stop with one program. Curiosity must always be nurtured.”

Merdeka Group commemorated World Environment Day with a series of activities aligned with this year’s theme, “Restoration of land and resilience to drought”. Land restoration is integral to Merdeka Group’s mining operations, which employ progressive reclamation—immediately reclaiming mined areas once they are no longer in use, rather than waiting until all operations cease.

PT Bumi Suksesindo (BSI), managing the Tujuh Bukit Gold Mine and the Tujuh Bukit Copper Project in Banyuwangi, East Java, marked the environmental day by planting tree saplings on June 4, 2024, a day ahead of the global celebration.

“Let us actively play our roles in ensuring the environment around the Tujuh Bukit mining operations is well-maintained,” stated Roelly Fransza, General Manager of Operations at BSI. “This includes proper waste disposal, reducing single-use plastics through the 3R approach (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), preventing hazardous material spills, and conserving water and electricity to uphold our shared commitment to energy conservation.”

Since 2016, BSI has reclaimed 75.57 hectares of land in the mining area. In 2023, BSI completed compensatory reforestation totalling 1,990.79 hectares, progressively turning over land since 2020, marking the largest compensation area by a private institution to the government at that time. The June 4 event at BSI also featured upcoming activities: mangrove planting at Candi Purwo, Tegaldlimo on July 5, 2024, and coral transplantation at Grand Watu Dodol, Bangsring on September 7, 2024.

Tree planting continued the next day, June 5, 2024, at the Wetar Copper Mine. On Wetar Island, Southwest Maluku, 85 employees and contractors, including Jimmy B. Suroto, Deputy General Manager, and Hidayat Purwoko, Head of Mining Engineering, planted native trees such as ketapang, cashew, sengon buto, and parna around the new Mining Department Partolang office building. The celebration at Wetar Copper Mine included a beach cleanup around the mining area on June 21, 2024, involving 102 employees, contractors, and Brimob, resulting in 35 kg of collected waste.

In Gorontalo, Sulawesi, the Pani Gold Project celebrated by hosting a seminar on innovative waste management in collaboration with Waste4Change, a social enterprise providing responsible waste management solutions. The seminar, featuring Khairunnisa Yusmalina Humaam, Senior Campaign Executive at Waste4Change, was attended by 104 employees and contractors of the Pani Gold Project.

In Central Sulawesi, PT Merdeka Tsingshan Indonesia (MTI), manager of the AIM (Acid, Iron, Metal) Project operating in the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park, celebrated World Environment Day by planting 1,200 mangroves in Keurea Village, Bahadopi, Morowali. The planting of the Rhizophora mucronata mangroves was attended by government officials, security forces and representatives from Merdeka Group subsidiaries. The Head of the Morowali Regency Environmental Service, Elyta Gawi, highlighted MTI’s significant role in supporting Morowali Regency. The first Adipura award won by Morowali Regency in 2024 was largely due to MTI’s donation of the most trash cans in 2023. It is hoped that this mangrove planting will inspire other institutions to support environmental conservation efforts.

Meanwhile, at the PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk headquarters in Jakarta, the celebration was carried out through the Corporate Volunteer Program, Bakti Merdeka. This time, Bakti Merdeka partnered with SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Jakarta in a workshop to create biopores as a soil conservation solution. The workshop involved 92 eighth-grade students and 15 selected Merdeka employees, emphasizing environmental awareness among the younger generation—a pursuit aligned with Merdeka’s core value of sustainability.

The Merdeka Group is taking a significant step forward in the development of the Pani Gold Project by signing an agreement to purchase 36 megawatts of electricity from PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara Persero (PLN), the State Electricity Company’s North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, and Gorontalo Distribution Unit (UID Suluttenggo).

This agreement marks the beginning of the utilization of electricity for the Pani Gold Project, which is poised to become one of Indonesia’s major primary gold mines. The project boasts mineral resources of 275.8 million tonnes with a gold grade of 0.75 g/t, containing 6.63 million ounces of gold.

The agreement was signed by Boyke Poerbaya Abidin, the President Director of PT Gorontalo Sejahtera Mining (GSM), one of the companies managing the Pani Gold Project, and Johannes Avilla Ari Dartomo, the General Manager of PT PLN (Persero) UID Suluttenggo, on August 24, 2023, at the headquarters PT PLN (Persero) in Jakarta. This agreement makes GSM the largest electricity customer in the Pohuwato Regency.

Boyke emphasized that Merdeka Group’s experience in managing the Tujuh Bukit Gold Mine, which has been operational since 2017 in Banyuwangi, East Java, provides insight into how the Pani Gold Project will be managed in the future. “We will prioritize environmental considerations, community involvement, and employ a significant workforce from Pohuwato,” Boyke stated.

The signing was also witnessed by the Regent of Pohuwato, Saipul A. Mbuinga, who warmly welcomed the presence of the Pani Gold Project, acknowledging its substantial contribution to the local economy of Pohuwato Regency. “I hope that everything proceeds smoothly until its realization in the field,” he expressed.

PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk celebrates World and National Environment Day in a series of activities at its mining operations and projects for over a month. Commencing in June 2023, these activities signify Merdeka’s commitment to minimize and rehabilitate the environmental impact of mining operations while also enhancing the quality of the surrounding area.

On Wetar Island, Southwest Maluku, the Wetar Copper Mine organized a beach clean-up activity coinciding with World Environment Day on 5 June 2023. Five days later, a beach clean-up was also held at Parang Semar Beach, Banyuwangi, East Java by PT Bumi Suksesindo (BSI), the operator of the Tujuh Bukit Gold Mine. This activity is part of the National Environment Day celebrations, coinciding in 135 locations across 37 provinces in Indonesia, held by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), with the theme of plastic pollution solutions, the same as World Environment Day. On that day, BSI and the local community successfully cleared Parang Semar Beach of 536 kg of waste.

Furthermore, BSI engaged over 400 individuals from various backgrounds in planting 2,023 mangrove stems on Parang Semar Beach. This activity is the result of cooperation between BSI and Perhutani, the East Java Forestry Service, and the Environment Service and the Natural Resources Conservation Center in Banyuwangi. On June 4, 2023, 500 mangrove stems which are very important for this coastal ecosystem were also planted by the Pani Gold Project in the Coastal Area of the Panua Nature Reserve, Pohuwato Regency, Sulawesi.

These activities support the government’s effort to restore 600 thousand hectares of mangrove forest. Apart from supporting the coastal communities’ economy through the preservation of crucial habitats for small animals,

Mangroves serve as natural defenses against erosion and tsunami. Additionally, mangroves absorb four to five times more carbon than terrestrial tropical forests. As Indonesia possesses the world’s largest expanse of mangroves, surpassing Brazil, Nigeria, Australia, and Mexico, which together with Indonesia comprise 50 percent of the world’s mangroves, restoring mangrove plays a pivotal role in reducing global carbon emissions. The effort is in line with Merdeka’s commitment to contribute to climate change initiatives.

In line with the commitment, Merdeka Group routinely engages in tree planting activities. During this environmental month, the Wetar Copper Mine planted trees in the Lerokis area of Wetar Island on June 1, 2023. Similarly, the AIM (Acid, Iron, Metal) Project planted trees at the Makarti, employees’ camp.

The company also hosted various environmental events including webinar on the mining environment programs and educational campaigns on hygiene and healthy living for elementary school students by the Pani Gold Project. BSI’s environmental activities which will extend until September 2023, encompassing initiatives such as an environmental awareness campaign for high school students, hatchling release, and coral transplants.

The Pani Gold Project stepped on the gas earlier this year. This project will grow other industries in Pohuwato and provide many job opportunities for local residents.

Dozens of young people in black and white uniforms lined the courtyard. In front of them stood a man in a blue and yellow uniform giving directions, occasionally loudly calling names or asking them to do something. Not far from them, a number of personnel in blue and yellow uniforms were seen going in and out of the office. Some seemed to be in such a hurry that they got into double-cabin cars and left the office.

This scene is commonly seen at the representative office of Puncak Emas Tani Sejahtera (PETS) in Marisa, the capital of Pohuwato Regency, in recent days. This scene was different from the previous months when the office looked quiet, the courtyard deserted, while the iron fence measuring two by four meters was mostly closed.

Those days PETS needed about 150 new employees whose recruitment would prioritize local residents. The reason is the good news that recently gave new breath to the Pani Gold Project.

PETS is a company formed by Merdeka Copper Gold with KUD Dharma Tani (whose members were originally traditional miners) to work on the Pani Besar Project in Hulawa Village, Buntulia District, Pohuwato Regency, Gorontalo Province. The project site is about 29 km from Marisa, and a four-hour road trip from Gorontalo City, the capital city of Gorontalo Province. PETS is the holder of a Production Operation Mining Business Permit (IUP) in accordance with Gorontalo Governor Decree Number 351/17/IX/2015.

Even though they had been standing for a while, PETS couldn’t move quickly because there were serious obstacles. At the location side by side, there is the Pani Project Contract of Work (KK Pani) owned by Gorontalo Sejahtera Mining (GSM) whose shares are owned, among others, by J Resources Nusantara (JRN), a subsidiary of J Resources Asia Pacific (PSAB).

Initially, there was an agreement between PETS and GSM in the cultivation of Pani IUP and Pani KK in the bordering area for mutual benefit. Exploration of gold deposits in the GSM area has been carried out since 2011 and ended in 2018. Meanwhile, in the PETS area, exploration drilling was carried out in 2012 and 2013. For the border area between the GSM and PETS deposit areas, there has been no drilling at all. However, Merdeka believes that rock mineralization continues in the intermediate area. In other words, there was a sizeable gold reserve there. Unfortunately, over the last few years, the PETS and GSM deals are way in place.

After going through a series of attempts to reach an agreement, the situation changed. At the end of 2021, PSAB sold all shares owned by its subsidiary, JRN, in GSM to Andalan Bersama Investama (ABI). The total transaction value is IDR 2.13 trillion, equivalent to 150 million US dollars. This sale is important because Merdeka has invested US$ 80.16 million for a 50.1% stake in ABI in the near future.

With the investment in ABI, Merdeka will acquire a majority stake in the Pani Gold Project through a 66.7% stake in Pani Bersama Jaya (PBJ) and 50.1% in GSM. PBJ is the parent of PETS and Pani Bersama Tambang (PBT).

Subsequently, the Pani IUP and Pani KK will be merged into the Pani Gold Project. The potential overall resource reserves for the Pani Gold Project will be greater than the potential reserves if the project were developed separately. The merger of the two projects is expected to optimize the development of the combined resource, which will provide significant economic benefits with ore being processed through one larger process plant.

“The merger of the Pani IUP and Pani KK into a larger Pani Gold Project will allow Merdeka to optimally utilize the resources of Mount Pani,” said Albert Saputro, President Director of Merdeka. According to Albert, currently the only mineral resource content in Pani is gold. If there is copper and other mineral content, it is secondary. “Pani is going to be huge,” continued Albert. “The Pani Gold Project is expected to produce 250,000 ounces of gold per year for 15 years.” In other words, this project will be the largest primary gold mine in Asia Pacific. That’s why the Pani Gold Project is very meaningful to encourage the growth and sustainability of Merdeka.

Simon Milroy, Vice President Director and CEO of Merdeka, expressed similar optimism. “With the Pani Gold Project under the control of Merdeka, we plan to accelerate the development of the project. This project will be a long-lived and low-cost gold mine,” said Milroy. He did not hide his admiration when he saw firsthand all the facilities that exceeded his expectations at the Pani Base Camp and Pioneer Camp at the GSM site and Baganite Camp at the site. He also took the time to inspect the area for mining support facilities, such as the ore processing plant, and the Bubulan Port in Paguat District, which will become an alternative logistics and material delivery point for companies other than Gorontalo City Port. “I will try to visit often so that I can follow the stages of project development, from inception to operation in the future,” said Milroy.

While visiting Pani on different occasions, Albert Saputro had the opportunity to explain Merdeka’s business and its prospects to the employees there. According to him, Pani will operate for a long time, from 20 to 30 years. Therefore, he invites all involved in the project to guard it so that it can be a blessing for all stakeholders, not only shareholders. He said that currently there are still some legal and administrative matters related to the acquisition of ABI and GSM. After that, there will be a cooperation agreement between GSM and PBJ because after all they are separate entities. “There are many clauses that need to be mutually agreed so that the business going forward can run smoothly,” said Albert.

With its big move at the end of 2021, Merdeka now has three companies operating in Pani: PETS, GSM and PBT. Merdeka has also drawn up a strategic plan to develop the Pani mine. What are they? First, conducting exploration drilling in the border area (gap) between GSM and PETS deposits; From this drilling, it is hoped that there will be information regarding the addition of a significant amount of reserves.

Second, re-drilling with a closer distance for the PETS deposit area because the previous drilling was still considered inadequate and was carried out about 10 years ago; This step is also expected to increase the certainty of the number of reserves and most likely also about the increase in the number of reserves. “We will do our best to get the data as accurate as possible, and plan as carefully and comprehensively as possible,” said Albert.

Third, prepare a report on the estimation of mineral resources based on the results of exploration drilling in the border area and the PETS IUP.

Fourth, start preparations to carry out the mining process from the GSM deposit area, which already exists in very adequate numbers for exploration drilling and various studies (metallurgy, geotechnical, hydrology, environment, mining methods, etc.), as well as a detailed and complete feasibility study on 2013 and 2019. It is true that some further studies and permit adjustments are needed before construction activities can be carried out and the Pani Gold Project can start operating in 2025.

Fifth, in line with the results of further exploration in the mining expansion area to the deposit area at the border and PETS.

Albert Saputro stated that the start of the Pani Gold Project is good news for Pohuwato Regency as a mining operation area. He mentioned that Merdeka’s track record through the Tujuh Bukit mining operation run by Bumi Suksesindo in Banyuwangi has proven that responsible mining can go hand in hand with economic, social, and cultural benefits received by the community, as well as environmental preservation.

From an economic perspective, BSI’s contribution to taxes in Banyuwangi is very large, reaching more than 60 percent. In Tujuh Bukit, more than 34.9 hectares of land have been reclaimed which has been mined. In Banyuwangi, safe methods with high standards are also carried out to extract precious metals that do not leave process waste.

“We protect the environment and support the economic, social, and cultural progress of the communities in every area of our operations. That is also what Merdeka will do at the Pani Gold Project. If the Pani gold mine starts operating, Pohuwato’s revenue will increase significantly, and the economy will grow even faster,” said Albert.

The initial activity of the Pani Gold Project which will soon be carried out is drilling to obtain data on additional ore reserves. No less than 200 points will be drilled in 2022. The Gold Pani Project has planned to recruit around 250 new employees, bringing the total number of people working there to 300. Of this number, it is expected that the majority will come from residents.

Merdeka is also committed to educating the best sons and daughters of Gorontalo so that in the future they can occupy technical positions which at the beginning of the activity were still held by workers from other regions.

Regarding employment, the Director of HR Merdeka Titien Supeno emphasized the importance of employees who are currently working or who will be recruited later to apply GREATNESS values into their daily behavior. “Growth can only be achieved if we respect each other, work responsibly, create superior results, put safety above all else,” he said. Titien also invites all employees to make their work a masterpiece, not just a craft.

With the increase in company activity, the need for goods and services in the local market will also increase. The significant increase in spending will increase the velocity of money which in turn will boost the multiplier effect of the company’s existence. The existence of the Pani Gold Project will grow other industries in the Pohuwato area. The growth of these industries will of course provide opportunities for the absorption of new workers.
